Taiwanese computer hardware, electronics and smartphone maker Asus has partnered with Foxconn to manufacture its smartphones at the latter's facility at Sri City in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.
In a strategic move to expand its presence in India, Asus will kick-start its manufacturing operations with its Zenfone 2 Laser model, which will soon be followed by the ZenFone Go smartphone.
The company aims to manufacture 150,000 smartphones per month by the end of the current financial year, which will account for almost 80% of its sales in India.
"India offers us a huge opportunity as smartphone penetration is just 10%. The Indian government's focus on 'Make in India' has opened a plethora of opportunities for international companies. We are aggressively targeting the Indian market,. We aim to achieve 5% market share in the country by next year," Peter Chang, regional head (South Asia and country manager - system business group), Asus India, said in a statement on Thursday.
