Avaya to ramp up Pune centre

Currently, the headcount at India Development Centre, owned by Avaya Inc, is 180 people.
 
The second phase of expansion of Avaya India development centre, which was set up in 2004, will now be extended to cover an area of approximately 23,000 sq ft out of the total Pune facility area of 45,000 sq ft.
 
The plan includes the setting up of a new lab area of 4,000 sq ft that will be utilised for demonstration purposes.
 
Avaya GlobalConnect vice chairman and managing director Niru Mehta said that after the proposed revamp, the Pune centre will become the second largest center for the company after the US and Germany.
 
Mehta also explained that Avaya Labs will focus on the development of IP telephony solutions applications and appliances for the global market.
 
The centre will provide support to Avaya Inc by supporting various R&D and services activities and strengthen the company's operations in the R&D of IP telephony, converged communication systems and appliances, contact centre and unified communication products.
 
As part of the expansion, the centre will also house a remote technical support team that will provide support services in the areas of converged data and voice, messaging and unified communication.
 
Mehta added, "We realised that the center, besides R&D, could bring in a lot more value for the company. This was one of the reasons for expanding this center. It will provide the technical support for customers in the US as well as Asia Pacific region and its services include mostly the post-sales support."
 
He also indicated that the company was considering re-engineering of its 20 technical support centers globally. Mehta, however, declined to divulge details if this move will increase employment opportunities in the country.
