The most striking thing about the Samsung Galaxy Edge+ is its appearance. Although the design and finish is the same as the S6 Edge, the curved screen of the Edge+ makes the phone look more attractive. The 5.7-inch screen wraps around the phone beautifully with a glass panel on the back. Both the front and the back panel are protected by Gorilla Glass 4, which makes it ideal for rough usage.
The Edge+ provides excellent picture quality with a QHD Super AMOLED display, which has a drawback - using it outdoors is a pain as the visibility is clearly reduced. But, on the upside, the Super AMOLED display conserves battery as it illuminates only the coloured pixels.
It comes with special Edge screen functions similar to those in other Samsung Edge devices. You can use the Edge screen to display specific apps using Apps Edge or make a 'favourite contacts list' using People Edge. With People Edge, you can put up to five contacts on the edge of the screen, which can be swiped out to make a call, send a message or email or even photos. Further, they are colour-coded so you can differentiate between the contacts. The phone also has contact-specific colour LEDs.
More From This Section
The phone runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with Samsung's trademark TouchWiz user interface. Samsung has also decreased the number of preloaded apps, to everyone's relief, which can be disabled and hidden via settings.
The phone has 4GB of RAM which provides for faster usage. Playing RAM-heavy games like Asphalt 8 and Injustice were a breeze.
The Edge+ has a 16-megapixel (MP) primary camera with which I was pretty happy. The pictures were crisp and required no retouching or editing. The secondary 5MP camera, although not extraordinary, will fulfil the needs of a selfie addict.
The 3,000 mAh non-removable battery performs quite well as compared to its counterparts. Even while using battery-draining apps like WhatsApp, the phone held its ground. The phone also supports wireless charging, but unfortunately we didn't have access to a wireless charging pad.
The only downside is the price. At Rs 61,000, it would irk many prospective buyers who would prefer to spend Rs 10,000 more and get the latest Apple iPhone 6s, when it launches.
On the whole, the phone packs a lot of promise and holds true to the adage: Bigger is better.
