City-based Biju Patnaik Institute of Information Technology and Management Studies (BIITM) plans to roll out its post graduate programme in retail management from the 2009-10 academic session.
The proposed programme in retail management will be the first sector specific management course to be launched by BIITM which currently offers two-year, full-time MBA programme to 120 students in its campus.
“The retail sector in India is on a high growth trajectory and we intend to offer a specialised programme in retail management to the students of our institute. The modalities for this course are yet to be finalised but we are soon going to initiate negotiations with the leading retail chains of the country”, AA Khan, dean (training) of BIITM told Business Standard.
Among the city-based B-schools, Asian School of Business Management is already offering a PG Diploma course in retail management while similar programmes are set to be initiated by KIIT School of Management and Srusty Academy of Management.
BIITM is also aiming to raise its intake for the two-year MBA programme from 60 to 120 for which it will shortly seek the approval of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
The management institute has also lined up a programme for working executives which is scheduled to be introduced from January next year.
