Industry association Nasscom today rebutted the Left's idea of forming a union for the employees in the business process outsourcing industry.

"Unions are not required in the BPO industry as the working conditions of the workers in this sector are the best in the world and the wages are also good," Nasscom President Kiran Karnik said on the sidelines of a seminar on e-governance conflux.

Accusing the BPO industry of violating labour laws, the Left unions had recently said workers in this sector should have unions to protect their interests. They had complained that attempts to form unions or associations by employees is being curbed with dismissal threats.

"The grievances of BPO workers are heard promptly and addressed. The working conditions also do not warrant a union," added Karnik.
