To expand India operations.

BroadVision, the Nasdaq-listed US-based provider of online commerce and business social networking solutions, is seeking to replicate the success of implementing its solutions at the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC).

The company, which runs the backend e-commerce engine, for the most successful e-commerce portal in India, is expanding its operations to tap into the growth of e-commerce in India which is geared up for a sharp growth curve.

“We are having a good run in the Indian government sector and we are growing our presence in the private sector as well. The solutions we provide have been growing in acceptance and we intend to capitalise on it,” Biplove Belwal, regional director, South Asia Pacific, BroadVision Systems India told Business Standard. The company has also moved onto offering cloud based solutions as part of its expansion plans.

The company makes e-commerce product suite which include tools that deal with strategic planning, implementation and operational support. BroadVision has worked with industry giants such as Wal-Mart on the re-launch of its online superstore, Macromedia to create a Web site that is capable of tailoring marketing materials to specific customers based on their user profiles, and RandMcNally.com to develop an interactive travel service web site.

The company has other major names including Aeroxchange (an aviation supply chain solutions company), Club Med (a global provider of holiday solutions) among others.

Detailing further on how IRCTC has grown robustly on BroadVision platform, Belwal said that it has grown from reservation portal to a full fledged rail travel portal. “From its start as B2C portal, it has on Tuesday grown into a B2B2C portal. From primarily being a ticket reservation site, the portal has evolved into a comprehensive travel portal — with loyalty card, hotel bookings, cab booking, special tours and travel package bookings, and offering over 30 payment options to customers in a secure manner. When the site was launched in late 2002 it had over 3,000 transaction in the first month and over a period of time, it has grown exponentially and on Tuesday handles almost 9 million transactions a month.

The back-end needs to be operating at over 99.8 per cent uptime, the site handles over 300,000 successful e-commerce transactions (booking & cancellations) with over 1 Million users accessing the system on a daily basis,” Belwal noted.

Riding on this and a few more success stories, BroadVision is expanding its team in India to support its growth of operations.

The company has a little over 100 people to support various installations in India and is planning to ramp up its operations. In addition to expanding its manpower base, it is also looking to expand its scope of partnership with companies like Wipro.

“There are a few companies in India that are our strategic partners for expanding our business in India. We are in constant discussions with them on how we can expand the scope so as to be able to capture the growth of e-commerce in India,” Belwal added.
