CDMA operators welcome TDSAT decision on dual tech

CDMA operators today welcomed the TDSAT judgement which dismissed a petition by GSM players challenging dual technology policy of the government.

"It clearly vindicates the AUSPI (CDMA operators' association) stand that development of technology and its applications for the benefit of the subscribers cannot be stopped and establishes once again that frivolous issues are being raised by COAI (GSM operators' association) to thwart competition and fair play," AUSPI said in a statement.

Telecom tribunal TDSAT today upheld the dual spectrum allocation policy that allowed Anil Ambani group company RCom and Tatas to get GSM spectrum for operating mobile services.

Rejecting GSM operators' allegations, TDSAT said: "...We do not find any ground to level malafide intention on the part of Department of Telecom (DoT) and accordingly hold that the issue of early completion of formalities is not a matter that would require intervention at our level."
