City job index goes up

Riding on the strong economic growth of over 7.9 per cent in the last fiscal, the Naukri job speak index showed a positive growth in hiring for 2009-10 as compared to 7 per cent in 2008-09.

“The appraisal season generally puts a halt to the hiring activity for most companies which is why we see the dip in the May index,” said Sumeet Singh, national head, marketing and communication, Info Edge.

Despite the dip, the three month moving index shows a steady growth in the hiring scenario. Hiring for IT and ITES sectors has moved up by 56 per cent in May 2010 over May 2009 while, index for banking and financial services moved up by 47 per cent.

 

The job index for Kolkata grew by 29 per cent for May which is a rise as compared to the May index for 2009, but a minor slip with index compared to April 2010.

As compared with national levels, the May 2010 index dipped by 10 per cent over the April 2010 index.

Recruitment index grew in all functional areas with the maximum in HR, IT and accounts by 68, 54 and 22 per cent respectively. Also, there has been a rise in ITES, marketing and project management sectors.
