With reports of Dell planning to set up a manufacturing facility in India doing the rounds, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy urged the company officials to choose Hyderabad as its destination.

Speaking at the inauguration of Dell's new facility in Hyderabad, Reddy said, "We have heard that Dell is proposing to start a manufacturing facility in India. I request them to consider starting this facility in Hyderabad as we can assure them of best talent, infrastructure and logistics, besides a proactive government."

Reddy also asked Dell's chief executive officer Kevin Rollins to look at second-rung cities like Visakhapatnam to set up their business process outsourcing (BPO) operations.

Meanwhile, Rollins said that building a campus in Hyderabad reinforces their commitment to India. "Expanding our presence in India is a part of the company's strategic business decision," he added.

The five-lakh sq ft facility, located in an area of 6.6 acres, houses Dell's customer contact operations and a global development centre for IT projects. These operations have so far been conducted from the company's leased facility in Hyderabad.

The Hyderabad centre employs 3,000 people, out of around 10,000 in India. Apart from Hyderabad, Dell has operations in Bangalore and Mohali in the country. The company revenues for the last four quarters were $54.2 billion.
