Chandigarh-based Competent Synergies Private Ltd, part of the Competent Group and having interests in BPO and call centres, has plans to set up a 2,000-seater call centre in the upcoming IT Park in Mohali at Rs 40 crore.
Further, the company is planning to dilute 40 per cent of its stake and is in talks with venture capitalists, private equity funds, and couple of new investors for funding.
Once operational (likely by December next year), the call centre will provide employment to more than 5,000 people in the field of BPO (inbound, outbound and non-voice) and information technology besides support functions.
The first phase is likely to be completed by March next year and will have 500 seats.
Talking to Business Standard, Competent Synergies Private Ltd Director Sanjay Tandon said, "We have been allotted one acre in the IT Park. We will develop 150,000 square feet at the allotted site with an investment of Rs 40 crore. The first phase is likely to be completed in March and will have 500 seats and it will be fully completed by December next year with 2,000 seats. The funding will be through internal accrual and term loans and also we are in talks with venture capitalists, private equity funds and new investors for equity partnership."
Recently the company acquired Clear Deal Consultants (P) Ltd, which was handling a Vodafone 200 seater call centre.

"Clear Deal Consultants is a subsidiary of Competent Synergies. And by the end of this financial year, it will be merged with the company," he added.
Already, the company has operations in Chandigarh and Mohali, having 1,400 seats. The Mohali centre is spread over 60,000 square feet and has roof top parking facilities. The existing centre’s call centre and BPO services various telecom companies like Bharti Airtel, HFCL Infotel, Tata Teleservices, Spice Communication Ltd and Vodafone, and banks also.
The company recently signed an agreement with Reliance BPO for setting up a 500-seater inbound call centre. The centre will generate employment for about 1,500 people in the region.
The company is also in talks with international firms for outsourcing. Its group turnover in 2007-08 was Rs 47 crore and it expects a growth rate of 40 per cent for the year 2008-09.
Tandon said in India communications and IT was growing at a phenomenal rate.
Competent has diversified interests in various businesses like call centres, stock broking, commodity broking, insurance broking, and audit services.
