The department of telecom (DoT) has served a 7-day notice to MTNL to explain the misuse of fixed wireless phone (FWP) service, which has resulted in the evasion of statutory payments to various operators. "It has been brought to the notice of the government that MTNL is providing various facilities and features to fixed wireless subscribers that are not permissible," the notice said. It went on to say that the misuse of the service "has resulted in the bypass of statutory payments including access deficit charge (ADC) payment to various operators." When contacted, MTNL CMD R S P Sinha said: "I have not yet received the letter. So, I cannot comment on the matter immediately. As and when we get any communication, we shall look into it." DoT has asked MTNL to explain within seven days issues like bypass of ADC and those related to the numbering scheme of fixed wireless service. DoT and Trai had earlier written letters to two other private telecom operators - Tatas and Reliance - questioning their fixed wireless services. |
