People of Orissa will no longer have to queue up at the regional transport offices to pay their motor vehicle tax, apply for a driving license or apply for the permit of commercial vehicles.
From Wednesday, they can apply online courtesy the e-Disha service, the first of its kind service in the country, rolled out by the Orissa government.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday rolled out this unique service which will offer online services fro three separate facilities- online payment of tax and fee, web-based application and appointment system for learners' License and issuance of permits for commercial vehicles.
Sanjeeb Kumar Sahoo, the state commerce and transport minister was present on the occasion. E-Disha is a unique project as it is the first online system in the country to that not only allows the user to pay the fees and motor vehicle tax at the convenience of sitting at home through a simple web application bit also to verify apst payment of vehicles and evaluate the current tax payable.
For providing such online services, the state commerce and transport department has entrusted the Delhi-based Smart Chip Limited to develop, deploy and maintain a specialized web-based portal.
The entire payment application has been integrated with the State Bank of India (SBI) for collection of fees and motor vehicle taxes.
The applicants need to have an SBI account with net banking facility to avail this service at ease. The online payment services will gradually be integrated with other banks.
It may be noted that since 2006, the state commerce and transport department has been implementing the projects on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode through their partner Smart Chip Limited for various e-governance initiatives like Smart Card based driving licenses, Smart Card based vehicle registration certificate, computerization of motor vehicle fees and tax collection and computerization of permit issuance and management system.
