Chinese smartphone maker Nubia on Wednesday unveiled its ‘bezel-less flagship Z11’ and ‘affordable battery-centric N1’ for India.
Priced at Rs 29,999 and Rs 11,999, respectively, the Nubia Z11 and N1 devices will be available exclusively on Amazon from December 16.
Business Standard had a brief interaction with these devices at their unveiling in New Delhi and found they had a lot to offer in terms of design, features and usability. Here are some quick points we noted for you during our brief interaction with the smartphones:
Nubia Z11: Not really ‘bezel-less’, but appealing
The flagship Nubia Z11 has been labelled a device that is ‘bezel-less’. That is not entirely true – there is, of course, a very thin bezel, subdued by the use of a 2.5 D curved glass on top of a 5.5-inch full HD resolution display. However, the ‘bezel-less’ design looks appealing and catches your eye nonetheless.
Another feature that the company has highlighted is the camera. The Nubia Z11 features a 16 megapixel (MP) rear camera and an 8 MP front-facing one. The rear camera of the device, supported by a Sony IMX298 sensor, is backed by Nubia’s NeoVision 6.0 suite, which, the company claims, provides DSLR-like photography experience. The device also makes use of OIS (Optical Image Stabiliser), HIS (Hand-Held Image Stabilisation) and EIS (Technology and Electronic Image Stabiliser) to capture crisp and clear photos and videos with lots of details and superior low-light performance.
The device feels light and fits perfectly in your hand. One-hand operation, though, might still not be comfortable, given the huge screen estate. But the device, with an 81 per cent body-to-screen ratio, fares as well as others in this segment.
The operating system is smooth, with no visible lag. The company seems to have made a wise decision in not pampering the device with bloatware. There are a few pre-installed software but nothing major to eat into the precious internal memory.
The Nubia Z11 is powered by Snapdragon 820 processor, and it comes with 64GB internal memory and 6GB RAM. The storage can be expanded further by up to 200 GB through the microSD card slot.
Nubia N1
The affordable Nubia N1 comes packed with a mammoth 5000mAh battery, which the company claims will provide almost two days of back-up under heavy usage.
Also, the device is loaded with a smart power-saving technology that allows you to save as much juice in the battery as possible, without compromising on the device’s performance.
The device sports a 13 MP rear came, and a 13 MP front-facing camera backed with Nubia’s NeoVision 5.9 suite. The suite offers quite a bit of customisation options and does the job as intended. The front camera also features a beauty mode for those who love to preen and take selfies. The rear camera is supported with a 3D noise-reduction technology, low-light image enhancement, and hand-held image stabilisation. These technologies do work to bring the best out of any scene.
The OS seems to run without any hiccup and offers some scope for customisation. The phone feels comfortable in hand but operating it with one hand might be challenging for most; we found it difficult to touch the corners during single-handed operations.
The device, powered by the Octacore MTK Helio P10 processor, comes with a 32 GB internal memory, extendable to up to 128 GB via microSD, and a 3 GB RAM.
Both the Nubia Z11 and N1 run Nubia UI 4.0, based on Android Marshmallow.
