Narendra Modi has shown a particular proclivity, when it comes to connecting with the masses. Being an excellent public speaker aside, he is a busy Twitterati and a quite active on Facebook too. There is ‘Mann ki Baat’ ofcourse.
And now comes ‘Narendra Modi’, the Prime minister’s eponymous mobile phone app, which lets the user connect with Modi individually. Launched on Wednesday by Modi himself, and available for all leading mobile OS, the app brings the current Prime Minister of India onto your smart phones, through latest news about him, his recent activities on social-media platforms, his speeches and much more.
Here are five things which make this app an interesting offering from the PM:
Interaction
The ability to interact with the prime minister at an individual level, seems to be the bragging point of the app. Modi, when releasing the app urged citizen to “stay connected on the mobile”, and there is much scope for that. The app not only lets you receive messages from the PM himself, but also lets you send him a message. However, the message would have to be sent from the PMINDIA website, where the ‘Write to PM’ link would redirect you to.
The ‘Give ideas and suggestions’ link also lets the user participate in online group discussions about important upcoming government agendas. Whether the PM will himself show up in these discussions, we haven’t had the opportunity to find out yet.

More From This Section
Apart from interacting with the Prime Minister, you can read all the latest news about him, his tweets, his Facebook posts and even his latest blogs.
Mann Ki Baat
Modi’s flagship radio programme had garnered much popularity, and was the first instance when an Indian prime minister took to the radio to regularly address his people about issues and ideas, not strictly concerning his political activities. The app lets the user access an up-to-date playlist of episodes in the radio series, or hear it live, when on-air.
Tasks and Badges
A particularly innovative aspect of the app is the ‘To-do-tasks’ section, where by completing small social media tasks like sharing government pamphlets, participating in online polls and more, the user can earn points or badges.
All about Modi?
The app can seem a bit too Modi-centric though, with an entire section dedicated to his biography as well as his ‘achievements’ and ‘ initiatives’ while in office. These sections however also serve as an easily accessible platform to gain knowledge about several current government schemes, programmes and initiatives.
