Himachal Pradesh records over 100% teledensity

Himachal Pradesh now has over seven million mobile customers and has become one of the first states in the country to achieve over 100 per cent teledensity.

Citing the latest figures of the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), Arvind Santhanam COO S-Tel said here today that Himachal Pradesh has become one of the first states in the country to have more mobile subscribers than population in the state.

According to the latest census count, the state’s population is around 6.8 million. “S-Tel was also the last and 12th player to enter the crowded mobile operators market in Himachal Pradesh. Currently S-Tel has 427,000 subscribers in the hill state,” said Santhanam.

 

“S-Tel has covered 52 of the 56 towns in the state with the help of 525 towers. Our focus will be the rural areas of the state which is still growing at a fast pace,” he said.

Asked about the revenue generated every month Santhanam said the company revenue was about Rs 3 crore per month and that the company would break-even by the end of this year in the state.

S-Tel also announced the launch of its ‘happy hours’ offer today in Himachal which allows customers to enjoy full time on recharge denomination on a recharge coupon chosen between 9 am to 11 am.
