HP has announced the expansion of its server portfolio by adopting Itanium 2 processors for its range of high-end NonStop servers.

Called the HP Integrity NonStop server, HP has claimed that the range will offer customers capability to manage high-volume online transactions and is focussed towards financial and telecommunication service providers.

HP's NonStop servers traditionally have been powering large volumes of credit and debit card and securities transactions and this new range of servers is aimed at intensive mission-critical applications where HP claims it will have a low downtime of three minutes a year.

Said Herbert Zwenger, executive director & GM (NonStop Enterprise Division), HP Asia Pacific: "These servers will offer 2.5 times the additional performance and has also raised the bar for business continuity by offering optional levels of availability with dual and triple modular redundancy. The redundancy option offers a seven 9s (99.99999 per cent) level of availability and 100-fold reduction of risk." A fully configured one such server can cost $6 million.

"We have been selling approximately 10-12 NonStop servers in a quarter in India and so far we have sold 200 units in India in the last two years. We are in active discussions with stock exchanges and defence establishments and government in India for the new range of servers and we intend to announce wins in the near future," said Hemant Tiwari, director (enterprise servers & storage), HP India sales.

He added that HP India is open to partnerships with defence establishments in India.
