Indian m-club membership swells to 13cr in Oct

The country's total mobile subscriber base has touched about 13 crore with the addition of over a whopping 66 lakh subscribers in October 2006.

While the GSM based cellular subscriber base touched 9.6 crore in October, the CDMA-based mobile user base has swelled to 3.3 crore during the month, according to data released by trade associations Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) and AUSPI.

The CDMA operators added a little over 19 lakh subscribers in the month, GSM based cellular companies had added 47 lakh new users.

Reliance Communications added over 10 lakh CDMA subscribers in October taking its total subscriber base to 2.4 crore. Tata Teleservices's subscriber base reached over 93 lakh with the addition of 8.8 lakh subscribers in the month of October.

On the GSM front, Bharti Airtel has capturted 29.88% market share.

The month saw the mobile industry achieve another milestone as the total subscriber base in Delhi (both GSM as well as CDMA) crossed the 1 crore mark with 70 lakh additions in GSM.

In October, the cellular subscriber base of Bharti touched 2.86 crore, followed by BSNL at 2.20 crore with a market share of 23.03%.

Hutch-Essar has 2.12 crore subscribers and Idea has 1.09 crore subscribers.
