Chennai-based Indium Software (India) Ltd, outsourced software testing services provider, is in the process of setting up a centre of excellence for network/wireless application testing services.

This initiative comes close on the heels of the company's reasonable success in executing wireless software testing projects for two US companies over the last one year.

Besides bringing its experience in enterprise software testing services, which it has been doing over the last t few years, the company will also bring in sophisticated tools and various processes for the wireless testing centre.

"This centre would provide end-to-end testing services for companies which are into developing wireless products," N Raghunandan, chief executive officer, Indium Software told Business Standard.

The centre will offer testing services for the software run on these wireless products. "We will probably be the first company to set up an independent software testing centre for network/ wireless applications," he said, adding that this initiative of the company would facilitate outsourcing of wireless application testing services to India.

Indium has earmarked $0.5 million to spent on infrastructure and equipment for the centre.

The centre would be fully operational in the next three months. It would begin operations with a 25-50 member team and would scale up the team strength to 100 by the year end.

With this centre becoming operational, the company would set its eyes on 15-20 top notch wireless product companies in the US. Explaining the advantages of the centre, he said that it would help companies reduce time to market the product and would save software development costs.

Ram Sukumar, chief technology officer, said that lot of wireless product companies need to obtain wi-fi certification and the centre would offer wi-fi pre-certification services, which will enable these companies to easily qualify for wi-fi certification.

Indium, which currently employs around 120 people, is also planning to create such a centre for VOIP (voice over internet protocol) applications testing in the next six months. The company, which is already executing projects in VOIP space, sees this as an interesting and potential segment as lot of applications are built around VOIP.

The company has offices in Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai and Sunnyvale, US. Indium has been reporting a 100 per cent year-on-year growth over the last two years and hopes to end this fiscal with a revenue of about $1.5 million.

About 50 per cent of its revenue is expected to come from network/wireless software testing services.

|
The services of Indium, which started its operations in 1999, include functional testing, performance testing, test automation and training.
