Reliance Infocomm Ltd, an Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Enterprise company, has today launched its international roaming facility in five countries, making it the first Indian CDMA operator to roll out the mobile telephony continuity services across seas. The company is also planning to extend the services to 11 countries across three continents.

Reliance Infocomm has launched its roaming services in the US, Israel, China, New Zealand and Indonesia by tying up with telecom majors in these countries.

These tie-ups would enable Indians to stay connected while visiting these countries, Reliance Infocomm said in a release today. Subscribers from these countries would also get similar services while visiting India, it said.

The company has tied up with China Unicon in China, Pelephone Cellular Communications in Israel, Sprint PCS in the US, Mobile-8 in Indonesia and Tedlecom Mobile Ltd in New Zealand.

Inder Bajaj, Reliance Infocomm, head - post-paid business, said, "While tariff will differ from country to country, our rates are structured to be highly competitive. For instance, rates for calls within a foreign country are the best in the industry."

"Going forward, we intend to launch more products that will cater to the needs of international travellers like high-speed data services and bring in synergy to the existing products," he added.

The company is also on the verge of signing similar deals with 12 operators in 11 countries across three continents, as said above, and this coverage would account for 90 per cent of the global CDMA footprint.

For extending the roaming facility, Reliance Infocomm is currently looking at the US "" to sign up with another service provider in addition to Sprint, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Australia, Hong Kong, Thailand and Canada.
