InFocus M808i: An iPhone-like low-cost Android device

Looks like an iphone 6 but performance disappoints

InFocus M808i: a mid-range phone not worth its price

Kumar Akash New Delhi
The US-based InFocus has turned heads with its iPhone-like Android devices in India's budget and mid-range smartphone segment. Recently, the company has launched another such phone, the M808i, which features a metallic design with a price tag of Rs 12,999. Let's find out, what this phone has to offer:

Design

At first glance, the M808i looks like a dead ringer for Apple's iPhone 6. Features such as round edges, speaker grilles at the bottom and SIM card slots are a few of the design elements which are exact replicas of the iPhone6.

Undoubtedly, it is one of the best designed smartphones in the mid-range segment of Rs 10,000-15,000. Although, the M808i looks robust due to its metallic finish, it is quite slippery.

Display

A full HD display has become the in-thing for Chinese smartphone makers and its no different for this US firm. The 5.2-inch display is fairly responsive. The display is bright, which makes it easy to use outdoors as well. Overall, we found the M808i's display the best feature of the smartphone.

Camera

Just like a full HD display, a 13-megapixel (MP) primary camera has also become the norm. But it's a well-known fact that megapixels alone do not account for good camera performance. The primary camera, while clicking decent pictures outdoors, disappointed in low-lit areas. The front 5MP camera was good enough for selfies.

Battery

Considering the 5.2 inch display with a full HD resolution and an octa-core CPU, we were expecting at least a 3,000mAh battery unit for the longevity of the phone. The smartphone struggled to last for a day on a full charge, which dropped significantly while playing games or using social networking sites over Wi-Fi. The culprit is the 2,450mAh battery, which disappoints.

Verdict

We have some really good smartphones such as the Moto G (2015), Xiaomi Mi4i and Asus Zenfone 2 in the same price range as the M808i. And most trump the device from InFocus in terms of performance. The M808i scores in terms of design and display, but its performance is a letdown.
