Infosys Q1: Blockbuster results; net zooms 50%

 There was a gross addition of 8,097 employees (net addition of 5,694 employees) during the quarter under review.

The board today appointed S Gopalakrishnan as the new president, chief operating officer and joint managing director w.e.f August 21, 2006.

 Nandan Nilekani, currently the CEO, president and MD of the company, will be re-designated as CEO and MD, the release added.

 N R Narayana Murthy, chairman and chief mentor, turns 60 on August 20, 2006, and will retire from the company on that date. The board has resolved to appoint Murthy as additional director of the company w.e.f August 21, and will also serve as non-executive chairman of the board.
