Intel India has taken up an initiative to train 2,000 housewives across 100 societies from Mumbai and 50 from Pune and Ahmedabad each.
Intel, along with Lenovo and society web portal provided to resident welfare associations of India (RWAs), Justmyneighbour.com, had launched a computer literacy initiative in Mumbai earlier this month, which will continue till January 2012. On completion, the programme will be rolled out in Pune and Ahmedabad.
Suryanarayan B, director, sales and marketing, Intel South Asia, said, "We believe mothers and homemakers have the ability to shape the future of the entire family. Our programme aims to give them hands-on experience of a personal computer and the internet to show them the underlying benefits of using technology for themselves and their families."
As part of the initiative, a two-day training programme will be organised every weekend in 50 housing societies in suburban Mumbai.
Hands-on training will be provided in batches of 20-25, using personal computers from Lenovo. The trainees will be taught components of a PC, browsing the internet, chatting, sending email and searching information on schools and colleges, finding new recipes, paying bills, internet banking, etc. On completion, each trainee will be given a certificate.
