Intel is set to launch power-optimised micro-architecture processors and servers for future digital home, enterprise, mobile computing and emerging market platforms.

'Merom' is aimed at the mobile phone market, while 'Conroe' is meant for desktops. The third energy efficient product to roll out of the Intel stable will be the Woodcrest server. All the three products will hit the markets in the coming days.

New generation products are aimed at reducing the dependence on energy in seeking to compute faster, Ajay V Bhatt, digital enterprise
group fellow & director (platform components & interconnects architecture), Intel Corp, said at the technology leadership lecture series organised by the Indian Semiconductor Association (ISA) here today.

"It is a popular notion that additional energy is required to enhance performance of computers and processors. But we worked against these fundamental limits to produce energy efficient processors and servers. Eventually, these products will be available for the home PC market as well," Bhatt added.

Energy-efficient products incorporate intelligent power capability, advanced digital media boost and smart access memory, Bhatt said.
