IT hardware and electronics company, Intex Technologies (India) Limited, is aiming at doubling its mobile handset sales in Gujarat. Currently, the company sells around 12,000 handsets which forms 8-10 per cent of total sales.

"Cities like Ahmedabad and Vadodara are catching up to dual SIM mobile handsets. Through introduction of new range of dual and triple SIM handsets, we are aiming at doubling sales of mobile phones in Gujarat," said Sudhir Kumar, national sales manager - telecom, Intex Technologies Limited. The company launched three new models of dual SIM mobile handsets with a starting price of Rs 1,500.

Currently, the company has a presence, through its network of channel partners, in cities like Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Mehsana and Rajkot, which contribute 70 per cent to the total sales of Intex in Gujarat.

To boost sales, Intex Technologies is planning to set up exclusive Intex stores across the country. "While we have around 20 such stores, we are adding 80 more pan-India. Of these, about 8-10 will come up in Gujarat," Kumar added.

For the financial year end of March 2010, Intex Technologies is expecting to peg a turnover of Rs 650 crore. While nationally it has a share of 1.5 per cent for a market that sells 12.5 million handsets per month, it is targeting a share of five per cent by September 2011.
