IT industry-academia co-operation to get boost

In an effort to give further boost to the IT industry and academia synergy, Indian Institute of Information Technology - Bangalore (IIIT-B) is putting up a platform to shape the needs of the new information society.
 
The platform, Infovision 2005, to be held in Bangalore from September 15-16, 2005, will see a congregation of visionaries and leaders in different fields of information sciences and management, and the enabling technologies.
 
This platform will be effectively leveraged to facilitate, debate and deliberate on the issues and challenges before the information society.
 
Said S Sadagopan, director, IIIT-B: "The vision of this summit is to serve as a platform for the industry and academia to meet and shape the needs of the new information society. As society transits towards the knowledge economy, information and knowledge become critical assets. Content becomes the key resource and the hardware and software industries act as the backbone. Corporate and academia leaders will provide insights into trends and developments for the Indian industry for developing a roadmap for content development for the global knowledge economy."
 
Intended to be an annual affair, this event hosted by IIIT-B and Informatics India will see discussions on IT and content management, knowledge management, e-publishing, search engines and data mining, e-learning and digital libraries, besides intellectual property rights. The event is also aiming to come out with recommendations on policy framework for information society after this event.
 
Added N Balakrishnan, chairman, Division of Information Sciences, Indian Institute of Science: "Today the information industry is poised for global success and Infovision 2005 is the ideal platform to get an insight into the exciting developments that are taking place. The chosen theme of the conference, 'Information Landscape: Content, Technology & Stakeholders' is in sync with the national and global interest."
