Information technology (IT) firms, including the top companies like Infosys, Wipro and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as well as the SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) have invested Rs 297.78 crore so far on their operations in Orissa.
The state has registered software exports of Rs 843 crore, Rs 1171 crore and Rs 1198 crore in 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10 respectively.
This was informed by the minister for IT, Ramesh Majhi in the state legislative assembly.
Majhi stated that the state government is going ahead with a lot of e-governance projects under the Centrally sponsored National e-Governance Plan.
As many as 8558 Common Services Centres (CSCs) are proposed to be set up in the state out of which 5853 CSCs have been operational. The franchisee for these centres have been given to Zoom Developers Ltd, Srei Sahaj e-Village Ltd and Basix Ltd.
Other e-governance projects being executed by the state government are e-registration, Orissa Secretariat Workflow Automation System, e-procurement, e-despatch and e-district.

The e-registration project which is one of the Mission Mode projects of the state government is implemented by by Orissa e-Governance Services Limited (OeSL), a special purpose vehicle formed by Orissa Computer Application Centre (OCAC) and IL&FS-Infrastructure Development Corporation.
The project is being taken up on the public private partnership (PPP) mode and it would be implemented by on BOOT (build, own, operate and transfer) basis. The e-registration project will be applicable to all essential records including birth, marriage and death certificates as well as land records. To facilitate the implementation of the e-registration project, all the 177 sub-registrar offices have been computerized. The whole process of roll out of the project will be completed in a month.
