IT majors — Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, Wipro Technologies and Cognizant Technology Solutions — have made 408 job offers to the students of Osmania University College of Engineering (OUCE) during the 'premium company recruitment drive' that ended on December 31.
These are the first placements taking place after software industry body Nasscom asked the companies to go for recruitment only in the second semester of the final year of the four-year course. This was aimed at containing the glut in the workforce and also keeping students focused on their academics.
The ‘premium company’ model provides a bigger talent pool to select candidates and, therefore, increases the joining ratio of campus recruits into these organisations. It also give an opportunity to students to attend selection processes of all participating companies.
The average cost-to-company offered this season is Rs 400,000 per annum.
Among others, Futures First, engaged in the trading domain on five futures exchanges offered Rs 805,000, the highest compensation this season. Capital IQ, a research and analysis company, offered Rs 5,00,000 per annum and Commvault, which provides data protection and management services, has offered Rs 4,50,000 per annum. The three companies have made offers to two students each.
Speaking to Business Standard, OUCE placement officer V Umamaheshwar Rao said, “About 100 companies have registered with the college for the recruitment drive this season.”

So far, TCS has made 134 offers – the highest ever made by any company in the history of OUCE, Cognizant 110, Infosys 87 and Wipro 77.
In all, about 20 companies till now have visited OUCE and made 445 offers, which has been accepted by 247 students. In 2008-09 this stood at 620 offers (Rs 4,00,000).
“The salaries remained at last year’s level due to the slowdown. We are happy there is no dip at least,” Rao said. The students are now in their last semester and will join the ranks in June.
The college has 320 BE and Btechs, 220 ME and Mtechs and 60 MCA, taking the total number of students to 600. Of these, 564 have registered for the placement drive.
The college also offers a dream job option — where students appear for the interview of a company of their choice. They can drop the present offer if they get one from their dream company or continue with the existing company.
Last year, a few companies delayed honouring their offer letters due to the slowdown. However, all the students who got offer letters were absorbed, Rao said.
