The country’s first Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR), proposed to be set up by the Andhra Pradesh government in Hyderabad, is expected to attract investments to the tune of Rs 2.19 lakh crore.

The region will cover 202 kilometres and comprise areas such as Gachibowli, Madhapur, Maheshwaram and Mamidipalli. It will house IT, ITeS and electronic hardware manufacturing units besides self-contained townships.

“All industrial promotion schemes and incentives offered by the state and the Centre will be made available to companies establishing their operations in the ITIR region. The ITIR will bring huge investments into the state along with enhanced GDP levels and creation of enormous direct and indirect employment,” chief minister K Rosaiah said after reviewing a meeting with the IT department officials here on Wednesday.

Stating that the proposal will be furnished to the Centre shortly for approval, the chief minister said ITIR would generate 1.5 million direct jobs besides creating indirect employment for 5.3 million. Other key benefits projected from ITIR include direct revenues of Rs 3.1 lakh crore and exports worth Rs 2.35 lakh crore.

Meanwhile, the state government is contemplating releasing the proposed ICT Policy 2010-15 shortly. The present ICT Policy 2005-10 is valid up to March.

“Based on the inputs from the captains of various verticals of the IT and ITeS sector, the government is contemplating providing incentives to the industry to conduct seamless operations in the state,” Rosaiah said.
