Mobile phone users will get an option to switch service providers without losing their existing number by September 20.
MNP Interconnection Telecom Solutions India, a joint venture of Telcordia Technologies, which has received license to implement the service in the east and south for 10 years, said by September 20 customers would have the facility to shift their service provider without changing their present number.
In phase one, the service would be implemented in four circles of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kolkata.
The second phase which would take place next year in the remaining seven circles, including West Bengal and other states of the eastern region.
"We will invest $10 million in infrastructure for setting up the number portability clearing house and the centralised datacenter," MNP Interconnection Telecom Chairman (designate) and President Interconnection Solutions Telcordia Richard Jacowleff said.
