Riding the crest of increasing use of embedded software in various applications and the growth of Linux as an accepted medium, LynuxWorks, the US-based company is turning towards India for developing cutting edge applications |
The company was started by Indian entrepreneur Inder M Singh who was earlier involved in starting companies such as Excelan (later merged with Novell). He is also a co-founder of Kalpana, which pioneered Ethernet switching technology, and was one of Cisco's early acquisitions. |
Singh said: "Avionics and communication devices are becoming increasingly critical in today's business environment and India with its range of niche companies are developing some of the best embedded software for these devices. There is a huge amount of talent in India and Linux is getting acceptance by developers as well as customers as a robust platform to develop applications. We are looking at setting up a development centre in Bangalore shortly. The company already has a development centre in Moscow "because we found the manpower cost being more cost-effective there." |
The company, which has clients such as Dassault, Boeing and HP, is also working closely with Bharat Electronics in India for the range of electronics the Indian defence PSU is building. |
Said R Rajagopalan, managing director of Realtime TechSolutions, who represent LynuxWorks in India: "Public sector and private sector deals are flowing in for LynuxWorks platforms. Public sector deals take at least 3-4 years to finalise but that is worth the wait. With increasing e-governance initiatives ongoing in the country and with most of the States adopting Linux as the basic platform, the idea of selling LynuxWorks solutions is that much more easy with PSUs." |
