Make STD/ISD calls via BT network

UK-based BT Group has formed a 74:26 joint ventrue with Delhi-based Jubilant Enpro Pvt Ltd with BT investing $1.6 million in the JV.

The company also anounced that it has applied for national long distance and international long-distance licences to the Department of Telecom to offer end-to-end managed services to corporate customers in the domestic market.

Andy Green, CEO of BT Global Services, said India is one of the fastest growing market for BT. The company has strong growth plans for the country where it expects revenues to be $250 million by 2009.

Majority of BT's 15,000 people in Asia-Pacific are in India, and the company is looking to increase its employee strength by another 6,000 in the country, he added.

When granted, the licences will enable BT's newly formed JV company, BT Telecom India Pvt Ltd, to offer services for the first time directly to domestic and international managed services to corporate customers who have sites in India. The company is expected to start operations by October 2007.

It will provide services like virtual private networks (VPS) and other internet protocol services.
