UL CyberPark, Kozhikode’s first IT park, has been awarded special economic zone status. It is also Malabar region’s first SEZ.
The Rs 600-crore park, a project of the Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society, will come up on 25.11 acres at Nellikode. It would be developed in two phases and have a total built-up area of 3.1 million sft. The first phase is expected to be operational from early 2011, with a total built up area of 1.4 million sft. Upon completion, the park would provide direct employment to 20,000 IT/ITeS professionals.
UL CyberPark probably could be the world’s first IT park promoted by a co-operative society owned and operated by 2,000 labourers. It will also be India’s first fully green certified IT park. The master plan and building designs will be completed soon and construction work will begin once the environment clearance is obtained, said K G Girish Babu, CEO, UL CyberPark.
It would be the first major IT park in the region between Trichur and Mangalore.
