Our Bureau Bangalore
MindTree Consulting, a provider of Bluetooth technology-based Intellectual Properties (IP) and solutions, has launched its Ultrawideband (UWB) program aimed to create licensable cores of the digital media access control (MAC) and physical layers of the UWB technology stack.

UWB wireless technology will enable multimedia equipment, such as a DVD player, to wirelessly 'talk' to a user's television set and audio system to beam high-definition video and audio, liberating the home entertainment system completely from wires.

With the ability to support data rates at 480 mega bits per second in the 1 to 10 metre range, low transmitter power and low cost of implementation, UWB is the latest addition to the exciting world of wireless personal area network technology (WPAN).

"MindTree has a good position in the Bluetooth wireless technology space by helping its customers achieve their design goals. MindTree is now poised to build further through its UWB program, which is aligned with the WiMedia Alliance. We will have elements that can be showcased as early as January 2006. This is a time-bound and resource-committed program that will deliver robust, standards-compliant and tested, licensable building blocks to our customers and partners," said MindTree Consulting president and CEO, R&D Services, S Janakiraman.

He added, "Going forward, we will continue to strongly invest in our UWB and Bluetooth technology initiatives to leverage MindTree's product realisation capabilities in the short-range wireless domain."

"MindTree is keenly looking forward to collaborating with silicon players in the UWB space in development, certification and marketing of solutions. We believe such an initiative will accelerate the proliferation of this exciting technology, help reach early standards agreement and certification for technology and products and build the base for sound market exposure," said MindTree chief technology officer and executive VP, R&D Services, Vinod Deshmukh.

He added, "By building highly successful partnerships, MindTree has demonstrated that such alliances have been beneficial for silicon majors to reduce time-to-market, build flexibility and options in their offerings, and deliver fully tested and robust products to customers."
