Motorola has signed a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B). |
The MoU is for collaborative research to develop technology innovations and solutions, conducting research programmes and jointly work on projects in designated fields of science and technology. |
The partnership will also enable Motorola to effectively utilise the results of the research efforts aimed at developing wireless broadband solutions for emerging markets like India. |
The focus of the collaboration will be on innovative solutions relating to resources and capacity management, appropriate scheduling policies and quality of service. |
Presently, high-end research is being undertaken for providing innovative solutions to improve quality of service over WiMAX. |
Speaking on this occasion, Chandra Kintala, director, Motorola India Research Labs, said: "We are happy to be associated with one of India's leading technological institutes. Through this collaborative effort we intend to advance our research and development, and achieve breakthrough technological innovation." |
"Motorola has already undertaken joint R&D initiatives with several leading institutions like IIT- Madras, IIT-Bombay and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore. The alliance with IIIT-B builds on our overall collaboration and partnership with Indian research and academic institutions," he added. |
As part of Motorola's applied research arm, Motorola Labs India is engaged in research on embedded systems, communication networks and application services, all in the context of mobile voice and data communications, and with emphasis on emerging markets. |
Research topics include increasing capacity and range of WiFi, WiMax and other communication networks; cost-effective broadband connectivity and discovering new nano materials for efficient energy storage. |
Motorola is also engaging with major universities in India to leverage each other's strengths to increase academic and industrial research capabilities in India. |
