MTNL cuts VoIP rates to Re 1/min

State-run telecom major Mahanagar Telecom Nigam (MTNL) today slashed international call rates to Re 1 per minute for its Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) customers to about 100 countries such as Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Japan, Malaysia and Kuwait.

The company had already slashed call rates to the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong to Re 1 per minute.

For countries to which the calling rates were Rs 6, Rs 8 and Rs 12 respectively, the new rates are Rs 4, Rs 6 and Rs 8 per minute respectively. "The new rates will be effective from today", A K Arora, executive director, MTNL said in a statement.
