MTNL is looking for joint ventures and tie-ups with content providers
for its newly launched broadband services, Tri Band.

"MTNL has already initiated dialogues with leading content providers of games, logos and movies. We would soon be partnering with some of them," executive director Kuldeep Goyal said today.

MTNL launched its broadband services on asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) technology on a trial basis at various exchanges in the city today.

"MTNL would be the network provider and Ericsson would provide equipment for the Tri Band. This service would be provided on the existing copper wire, and provides direct access to other network without the help of dialup," Goyal said.

The ADSL technology facilitates high speed data download from 256 kbps to 8 MBPS, and one can access video clips via PCs and television, he added.

"Inititally, broadband Internet services would be available through the Tri Band. We will shortly introduce video-on-demand service. Multicasting, multimedia, tele-medicine services, video conferencing, high-speed gaming, and broadcast application would be added in the future," he said.
