MTNL has withdrawn its application for international long distance (ILD) licence from Department of Telecom (DoT).

The telecom major said in the present telecom scenario it does not need the licencse on an urgent basis.

A senior DoT official said the company has already withdrawn its ILD licence application and has stated that it would continue to route its ILD calls through private operators.

MTNL officials confirmed the development and said since the license fee is low at Rs 2.5 crore, it can get the ILD licence as and when it seems necessary.
