California-based NComputing, a provider of ultra low-cost computing, today announced a special education pricing scheme to encourage private educational institutions throughout the country to experience its low cost and high performance solutions.

To be effective till June 20 this year, the special pricing includes a 25 per cent discount on the NComputing X-series kits and a 15 per cent discount on the L-series. The discount is only available to private educational institutions in India during the promotional period. With the special pricing scheme, the company looks forward to deliver computing seats at dramatically reduced costs starting at Rs 3750 per seat after discount. The offer is available through participating resellers and on the MRP.

"NComputing's low cost and energy efficiency makes it the ideal computing platform for public and private schools, especially in these difficult economic times. In just 2 years, over 40,000 organisations around the world have installed NComputing to expand computing access to more and more people at an affordable cost. With this special pricing scheme we are encouraging educational institutions throughout the country to start their projects and to bring more computer stations to the students," said Manish Sharma, vice president APAC, NComputing.

The company has already delivered its services to 5,000 government schools in Andhra Pradesh and hundred other private schools. The NComputing solution consists of virtualisation software that enables a single PC to be shared by many users and an access device. Each user's monitor, keyboard, and mouse connect to the small, highly reliable NComputing access device, which is then connected to the shared PC. The access devices and software enable as many as 30 users to access the capability of one PC, thus dramatically bringing down the cost of infrastructure, installation, and maintenance.

Sharma adds that in addition to lower acquisition costs, the NComputing solution also reduces ongoing support costs. NComputing access devices only use one watt of electricity – compared to 120 watts of electricity for a dedicated PC. The 95% reduction in power consumption is especially critical in India where electricity rates are high and access is unreliable.

NComputing was founded with the vision of making computing affordable for everyone. Headquartered in Redwood City, California, the company's patented technology enables schools, governments and businesses to dramatically lower computing costs, energy consumption and e-waste.
