NIIT Limited, a leading IT training solutions provider with presence in around 40 nations across the globe, is looking at a three-fold expansion in its training centres in China, Vietnam and Nigeria over the next five years.

“At present, we have 175 training centres in China, 29 centres in Vietnam and about 30 centres in Nigeria. However, these countries offer ample scope for more training centres and we are aiming for a three-fold expansion in these geographies in the next five years”, said Vijay K Thadani, the chief executive officer of NIIT Limited.

NIIT is not averse to foray into nations where it does not have any presence but right now we are aiming to deepen our presence in the existing overseas destinations, he added. Thadani who is also the chairman of the CII Education Committee informed that the committee has presented a proposal to the Centre for setting up as many as 6,000 model schools across the country on the public-private partnership mode.

“This apart, the committee is also working on other key areas like changes which can be brought about in India’s higher education policy and also making the universities and the industry to work hand in hand for improving the employability rate. CII’s education committee has also launched Teach for India campaign with the objective of persuading the best young talent to join the teaching profession”, he informed.

Thadani was in the city to attend CII’s National Council meet and also to launch a new curriculum on Business Intelligence under NIIT’s flagship GNIIT programme in Orissa.

The business intelligence curriculum of GNIIT called the GNIIT Business Systems and Information Management track will introduce career aspirants on technologies such as analytics, programming, dashboards, data mining and warehousing.

The training on business intelligence is being offered by NIIT in collaboration with US-based SAS Institute Inc, a global leader in business analytics software and services market.

According to industry estimates, the services market around business intelligence, data warehousing and associated software stood at $25 million in 2007and the figure is expected to touch $450 million by 2012.

“India needs around 75,000 professionals in business intelligence (BI) technologies and skilled professionals in BI technologies are in demand not only in IT but non-IT companies as well. While IT-BPO (business process outsourcing) still continues to be the largest recruiter, sectors such as retail, telecom, finance, banking and insurance have also opened a plethora of opportunities for career aspirants”, claimed Thadani.

Speaking on the occasion, Shobha Ramani, the product group head of NIIT Limited said, “Today’s business challenges mandate a fresh approach to managing information. Information must become a strategic asset as over 60 per cent of the CEOs need to do a better job leveraging information.”
