Nokia launches N8 handset in Gujarat

Nokia on Wednesday launched its latest smartphone, the Nokia N8, with Ovi services in Gujarat. Powered by Symbian 3 software, the Nokia N8 comes with a 12MP camera and 3.5 inches AMOLED display in an aluminium body and in five different colours.

Talking about the launch, Viral Oza, head - activation, media and online sales and marketing, Nokia India said, "Nokia N8 is a personal entertainment device designed for both a style leader and technology leader. People who buy the Nokia N8, besides getting a portable entertainment center, will get more than 250 new experiences and features from a faster more responsive user interactive (UI) to visual multitasking." The smartphone is one of the seven models among Nokia's N and E series, which form 22 per cent of Nokia's total range of 33 models, said Oza.

 

"Developers can easily create custom applications and services on Symbian 3, using the Qt framework and offer them to the world's largest mobile user base of 175 million Symbian devices globally," Oza added.

Nokia N8 allows people to create compelling content, connect to their favorite social networks and enjoy on-demand Web TV programs and content. The latest version of Ovi Store, keeping Indian consumers in mind, introduces to thousands of applications optimised for the Nokia N8. Priced at Rs 26,259, the Nokia N8 is also available on an Easy EMI scheme.

According to a report by Canalys, the Indian smartphone market was around 2.1 million units in CY 2009 of which Symbian smartphones accounted for more than 72 per cent. Moreover, the number is expected to double to 4.7 million units in CY 2010.
