The diamond-shaped Nokia 7600 incorporates a 65,000 color screen, weighs 123 grams and measures 87mm x 78 mm x 18.6 mm.

Nokia claims it to be one of the lightest and smallest phones in the world using the WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) standard.

It also houses a VGA camera that can capture pictures and video clips with audio of up to 2.5 minutes each.

It also has an MP3/AAC music player, said the statement.

Music and other multimedia content can be downloaded using mobile services while on the move or locally from a compatible PC via infrared, Bluetooth or USB connection while the XHTML browser allows users to browse the Web.

Other features include polyphonic ring tones, support for Java applications and a data connection speed of up to 384 kilobits per second in WCDMA high-speed network, which operators using the GSM are expected to adopt.

In a WCDMA network, users can also send and receive video clips and pictures, even during a phone call.

The phone operates in GSM900, 1800 and WCDMA networks and is expected to be available in Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia-Pacific in fourth quarter of 2003, the statement said.

The phone has talk time of up to 4 hours in GSM networks and up to 2.9 hours in WCDMA, and stand-by time is up to 12.5 days in both networks.

WCDMA is a third-generation mobile wireless technology offering much higher data speeds and better quality of service to mobile and portable wireless devices than current mobile networks.
|

In June this year, Nokia launched its first WCDMA phone, the 6550 in Europe.
|
|
However, the Finnish phone maker's maiden attempt was met with complaints about poor battery life and reliability.
