Technology services provider Omnitech InfoSolutions plans to set up Bahrain's first managed disaster recovery (DR) centre, which will be operational in the next 12-15 months.

The Mumbai-based company is setting up the DR site to cater to the growing needs of IT and security, as financial firms in the Arab countries are gearing up to comply with Basel-II and Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) regulations.

"There are over 235 banks and other financial institutions in Bahrain and we would be looking at managing at least 5 seats to 50 seats per company. We would also look at offering the DR centre's services to other companies, numbering over 200 in the region," Omnitech InfoSolutions' managing director Atul Hemani said.

The company has also signed a joint venture deal with Bahrain's Almutawa group, and together with Almutawa's wholly-owned subsidiary - Noon Investment Company- has set up a JV firm, OmniGulf Technologies WLL.

The JV firm will commence operations by mid-October, he said. He did not reveal the investments earmarked for the DR centre.

The company also plans to offer its services to Qatar, UAE and Saudi Arabia, and other Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) member countries.

It also plans to offer build, operate and transfer (BOT) model in DR solutions and centres in the US, Canada, UK and Belgium among other countries.
