Chander Agarwal, executive director, Transport Corporation of India (TCI), wants to create a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip that will track consignments wirelessly, making his job that much simpler. When not thinking of tracking and delivering packages, this executive plugs in his iPod or shifts to amateur (but skilled) photography with his digital camera.

If you have to survive a day without your gadgets, how would you?

I would keep myself busy hunting for an alternate option or perhaps a better gadget than the ones I already have.

If you could, what dream gadget would you build?

I would like to craft an RFID chip that can be stuck onto each package and travel on planes and ships, across states and countries. This would be used for tracking consignments without the hassle of barcoding systems.

Name one crazy application that you had fun experimenting with.

Transferring music digitally to amplifiers all around my home and then listening to digital versus analog piped music.

If you could, whose computer would you hack and why?

I would probably hack an aircraft manufacturer's computer to see their next concept aircraft. But in reality I would never do something like this, as it is not ethical.

Tell us about one gadget that you haven't yet mastered, but would like to...

I would love to discover and experiment more with the Macintosh operating system, every Apple user's dream software.

How often do you change your gadgets?

I change my gadgets only when I am driven by the need to do so. On an average, I change my daily-use gadgets once a year. This I do to keep myself abreast with the latest technologies.

What is the next gadget on your must-buy list?

The iPhone. With its multi-utility capabilities, I would not have to cart around different gadgets for separate purposes. It would be an all-in-one solution and would definitely make my life easier.

Which of your gadgets was a waste of money?

My Bluetooth headset.

What is your costliest contraption till date?

I guess the 10-megapixel digital SLR camera.
