OnePlus 3T review: The best has just become better

As an upgrade, the phone gets updated Snapdragon 821 processor, 16 Megapixel (MP) front-facing camera and 3400mAh battery

The original OnePlus 3 was a capable device and is certainly a serious contender in 2016 flagship race. Recently, the company launched OnePlus 3T -- an upgrade to already famous OnePlus 3 – with incremental changes in the hardware. As an upgrade, the phone gets updated Snapdragon 821 processor, 16 Megapixel (MP) front-facing camera and 3400mAh battery.

Let’s take a look at how the new device fares up:

Design and build

OnePlus 3T shares its chassis and design from its original sibling with almost no visible changes. The device feels strong and has a premium finish, thanks to metal build with smooth curved edges.
 
OnePlus 3T comes with a new colour option i.e. ‘Gunmetal Grey’ which looks appealing and is certainly a welcoming addition.

Hardware

The major hardware change in OnePlus 3T is in its new processor and the device share its heart with the same processor which is ticking inside Google’s latest Pixel smartphones. Now, running the show is all new Snapdragon 821 processor – an upgrade in itself from Snapdragon 820 processor. In terms of usage, the device is snappier and can take all the abuses with a smile. Under extreme situation also, the device doesn’t lose a sweat and continues to operate with no visible sign of lag or sloppiness.

Also, the device is now available with two storage options: 64GB and 128GB

Apart from the hardware, almost all the hardware aspects are kept identical from the sibling. The device features 6GB RAM, 5.5 inch Optic AMOLED display protected with Gorilla glass, fingerprint sensor placed under home button at the front, bottom facing speakers, USB Type-C port and alert slider on the left.

Software

OnePlus 3T runs on Oxygen OS 3.5, which is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The OS provide Android stock experience but with a few tweaks. The OS feels fluid and offers a lot of scope for customization.

Camera 

OnePlus 3T marks a significant in front facing camera. The device feature 16 Megapixel (MP) f/2.0 aperture camera, up from 8 MP in its predecessor. The rear facing camera is of 16 MP resolution, identical to its predecessor, with and updated electronic image stabilisation (EIS). The camera is now protected with sapphire glass to safeguard it from unwanted scratches.

Battery

OnePlus 3T is powered by a 3,400mAh battery, a promising upgrade of 400mAh from its predecessor. The new battery doesn’t cause any change in device dimensions and can still charge from 0 to 60 per cent in half an hour, thanks to dash charging technology.

Conclusion

The best has just become better. OnePlus 3T is an upgrade that actually made the deal much sweeter. The original OnePlus 3 had every necessary ingredient to classify it as the flagship device. With OnePlus 3T taking over now, with all the latest updates, the deal has just become better.
