PC sales in first half of FY09 grow 12% to 3.69 mn

Personal computer sales during the first half of the current fiscal (April-September) saw a modest 12 per cent growth over the same period a year ago, touching 3.69 million units.

However, compared with the second half (October-March) of the last fiscal, number of computers sold in the first half of the current fiscal has declined by nine per cent in terms of unit.

In the October 2007-March 2008 period, the number of personal computers sold were four million units.

Announcing the figure, industry association MAIT today said in the current macro-economic conditions and the Conservative buying sentiments, personal computer sales are expected to remain flat at the same level as in the last fiscal at 7.3 million units.

 

"We expect a flat market for PCs for 2008-09," Vinnie Mehta MAIT Executive Director said.
