Finnish mobile handset casings manufacturer Perlos on Thursday announced formal inauguration of its $30-million manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur near Chennai. |
This will be Perlos' eighth volumes manufacturing facility across the globe. |
The facility has come up over 26,000 sq metres within the Nokia Telecom Park, which also houses the facilities of global component manufacturers such as Aspocomp, Foxconn, Salcomp, Jabil, Laird and Wintek. It will initially cater to the needs of Nokia India and later to Nokia's other customers. |
The plant, which started shipping products from mid-August, employs 770 people, of which around 40 per cent are women. It will cover the entire product lifecycle from product design to manufacturing, logistics and new product versions. |
Matti Virtanen, president and CEO, Perlos Corporation, said all the company's key customers are either already present in Chennai or making their way to the state. |
"With this plant, we will offer services to handset manufacturers and companies providing electronics manufacturing services," Virtanen said. |
It was inaugurated by Finland's ambassador to India, Asko Numminen, and Shaktikanta Das, secretary - Industries, Tamil Nadu government. |
