Phagwara awaits BSNL's broadband service DataOne

BSNL broadband DSL Internet service "DataOne" is yet to make its presence felt in Phagwara. With its significant number of exporters, importers, financial institutions, educational institutions, Phagwara is the main revenue generating sub division of Kapurthala. In spite of all these, why the BSNL authorities have neglected such an important city is a big question.

About one year ago, BSNL had started its high speed broadband DSL internet services "DataOne" and had initially given it for free to the public and its subscribers through its toll free number 16004241600.

Talking to Business Standard, one of the exporters wondered why Phagwara, known as Mini Manchester of Punjab, has been ignored by BSNL & not provided its DataOne broadband DSL Internet service, especially when Phagwara is the main revenue generating sub-division of Kapurthala district located on the main G T Road National Highway."

More than 57 banks, district revenue head quarter and revenue offices are already using the most modern high speed data transfer services in Phagwara being provided by private operators at present.

Echoing similar sentiments, exporters also alleged that the machinery meant for BSNL DSL service allocated for Phagwara has been sent to other places.

However, a senior BSNL official said, "It was not neglected, as initially we have a limited supply of equipment, That's why we preferred Jalandhar, Ludhiana etc." As far as Phagwara is concerned, most probably by the end of April we would launch the service.
