Our Bureau Kolkata
racy (CAAC) workshop to raise awareness on this issue.  Seven per cent of the world trade is in counterfeit goods with losses in tax revenues amounting to $75 billion.  The CAAC was conceptualised in 2003 and was launched with a seminar on intellectual property rights in 2004 to enhance and improve partnership between government, enforcement agencies and the industry to fight counterfeit products.  CAAC is also looking forward to international collaboration, working closely with markets affected by piracy and counterfeit products of Indian or foreign origin.  Companies like Daimler Chrysler, Hewlett Packard, Tata Motors, Microsoft, GSK, Nokia and Reliance Infocomm have come together as part of this association.  RK Adhikari, DCP Kolkata lamented that the law enforcers themselves were tied down by elaborate legal frameworks. The police force in Kolkata till recently had mainly focused on pirated video and audio cassettes.
