Wipro chairman Azim Premji said he was expecting the Union government to become much more active on various policy initiatives after the ongoing assembly elections.
He had been vocal on the issue earlier and was among a group of prominent persons who’d issued an ‘open letter’ to the Prime Minister on a ‘governance deficit’, which was hurting investment and economic growth.
“Everyone is very preoccupied with the elections which will take place over the next eight weeks. I personally expect that the government will become much more active on policy initiatives post the elections, irrespective of the results,” said Premji.
He added that opposition parties needed to be supportive in many of the policy reforms being initiated by the government. “I think if the opposition tends to be a little more constructive, it will expedite the whole process of parliamentary reforms vis-a-vis some of the policy changes the government would like to make,” he said.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had earlier crticised India Inc for ‘negative remarks’ on government policies, the reforms agenda and the economic situation. He had warned that such comments fuelled uncertainty and emboldened those who’d no role in India's economic growth.
