| From luxury mobile phones with titanium buttons to PDAs that clone desktop PCs, Sidharth Banerji, managing director of Kyndal India, devours his technology with elan. Paradoxically, even as he claims to be holding off from purchasing a Rs 56,000 telescope he doesn't bat an eyelid as he admits, in what may seem like a self-indulgent dream, that he really wants a teleporter.
Which of your gadgets are you most proud of?
My Mobiado Professional Executive Model, which is a wood-clad upgrade of a Nokia-based phone. It is the first production phone with titanium buttons. I am proud of its accentuated looks and the precision with which it has been styled.
What is your coolest gadget, the one you like to show off?
The Pantech Duo, a full-service desktop computer that is fashioned as a multimedia phone. It's the best of both worlds, for getting down to business during the week and then enjoying yourself with its entertainment capabilities "" like the camera, music player and video player "" on the weekends.
A perfect geeky gift for you would be...
An ideal gift for me would be the HTC Advantage X7501, bundled with Microsoft Windows Mobile operating systems for smartphones and pocket PC phones.
Which ultra-expensive gadget would you like to buy in the near future?
That would be the EXT125 PE Astro Telescope, a high-resolution Maksutov-Cassegrain optical design. Other celebrated features include a 127 mm clear aperture, a focal length ratio of 190 cm, an internal flip-mirror system for either straight-through or 90-degree observing position, a dual-axis motor drive system with hand control. The present price is around $1,420.
What one technology have you personally been interested in?
I've always been fascinated by the wireless technology module incorporated by Microsoft Windows and particularly for its latest handheld devices by HTC. The mobile phone maker has created quite a stir with some of the most advanced smartphones and PDA phones.
If you could, what kind of dream gadget would you invent?
My dream gadget would involve something like new Star Trek-style technology that enables people to be teleported instantaneously anywhere in the world.
Name one funky gadget you've had fun experimenting with.
At a friend's place, I discovered this extraordinarily designed USB-enabled mini-fridge. The fridge, which was powered by a USB connection from a PC, was quite a revelation. The most amusing feature was that it could hold and cool a can of your favourite beverage. It's ready to go when you most need it. |
